It's a......

BOY!!!!

The polls were right and we couldn't be more excited! I'll post the ultrasound pics when we get back in town but for now, we wanted to share the news. You should've seen Curtis's face light up when it showed up boy. It was priceless. I've always thought it was a girl for some reason so I think Cur didn't really let himself daydream about all the things he could do with a little boy. On the way home from the doctor's office he was telling me how he couldn't wait to take him fishing, work on the truck together, teach him to throw a baseball, and get him ready to serve a mission. He said "There's a shortage of good men in this world. We could use another good man." He couldn't be more right and I feel so blessed and privileged to have the opportunity to raise a boy with one of the best men I know.

Now we're on to boy names (we only had a girl name! help!) and room ideas... So much fun!!!

Merry Christmas!

2009 has flown by! As these special holidays brings this year to an end, Candace and I feel like we have so much to be thankful for. We'd like to share with you some of the highlights from our first year together (also, check out the attachment):

Candace is pregnant with a baby boy, due to join us May 25th! We are all super excited! Candace works for an architecture firm in Salt Lake City as an interior designer. Her days are long as Curtis drops her off at the bus stop in Orem at 6:30am and she usually returns at 6pm or later. She's a trooper and she works hard to put Curtis through school. She loves being a leader to the young women at church. In true fashion of being an Arizona native, she's still learning to adjust to the cold Utah weather. We did, however, get plenty of beach time this summer with a honeymoon to Playa del Carmen, Mexico and a family trip to Hawaii.

Curtis is wrapping up his second and final year as a marketing MBA at BYU. The program has been a tremendous blessing to him and he's ready to jump back into the business world. He graduates in April and is interviewing with a variety of companies. We'd like to stay close to family in the Southwest but we're willing to go wherever we find the best job opportunity. Riding and selling motorcycles is still what Curtis loves most, however, he's recently picked up the fly fishing bug from his father and knows the Provo River inside and out. He loves cheering on the Suns, playing flag football with his classmates, and can't wait to have a little boy to play with.

This Season is a time to reflect on the blessings from God, including the life of Jesus Christ. We are so grateful for the peace the gospel of Jesus Christ brings into our lives. Thank you for your love and thoughts during 2009 and we hope to stay in touch during 2010!

Look What Little Brother Can Do

crowd for an impromptu jam session on the piano. He was amazing!
I'm always impressed by his talent.

16 & A Half Weeks

So I'm almost 17 weeks pregnant and it feels so surreal sometimes. It's feeling more and more real as my tummy gets bigger and bigger. I think I felt the curbug kick me today. I was laying in bed and it felt like a little popcorn popped in my tummy. It could've been a gas bubble or something but this felt different. Although it hasn't happened again so I can't be certain...

This week little curbug is the size of an avocado. Can you believe that? It's incredible. I was thinking the other day about a project I'm working on. It's a city hall that's being built. I was looking at the construction progress thinking "Heavenly Father is making a little life in my tummy faster than this measely building is going up!" It really is an amazing process, one that I feel so blessed and priveledged to be a part of. I want to meet this little guy or gal so badly! (I think it's a girl for the record, but we'll see!)

On another note, it's been snowing here like crazy! The other morning Cur was driving me to my bus stop and we were trying to guess the temperature outside because it felt so cold. I looked it up on my phone and it was zero degrees. That's right, I said ZERO DEGREES! Needless to say, we've been bundling up. I can't wait to enjoy some good 'ole Arizona weather. Who needs a white Christmas anyway? Not me.

14 Weeks & A Belly

I'm not sure if it's because I just ate 4 pieces of pizza or because there's a Curbug the size of a lemon in my tummy, but I can't seem to be able to button my pants these days. Thank goodness for the marvelous invention, the rubber band (if you don't know that age old trick, be sure to ask someone who knows).



Don't most people look like this at about 20 weeks? I really don't know but I'm fearful I'm doomed to gain 70 odd pounds like my mother...

We have a CURBUG on the way!!!

So I'm pregnant. There's a tiny little baby growing inside of me. How crazy is that?! I'm 12 weeks along and we couldn't feel more blessed. We can't wait to meet this little bugger.

The Sun Came Out And We Played!

Utah's weather is funny. It will snow one day and be warm the next. Anyways, we've been blessed with some sunny weather as of late. Candace and I headed up to Park City to celebrate our 1 yr anniversary. We spent the night at a beautiful resort at the mouth of the Canyons Ski Resort and treated ourselves to a tasty steak dinner. The following morning, we encountered an interesting site: A large mass of clouds at the bottom of a mountain.



We'd never seen anything like it.


Come to find out, it wasn't a mass of clouds but steam rising from a lake.







On Saturday, we got together with Justin and Cbug's cousin Megan for some fun at the shooting range.



Get it, CBUGGGG!

I had an unopened pop can in my truck from the last time I went shooting with my brother Taylor. Here's some footage of the fun:

So, the last 3 or 4 times I've gone fishing I've gotten skunked. I knew I had to change things up, so I brought my good luck charm: Cbug (you might remember this post). I set out a folding chair for her on the bank and she brought a thick blanket to keep warm.

I wasn't having any luck until I switched my fly and.....WHAAAM! I was pulling them in left and right!! You don't believe me do you? Check out the evidence below:

Candace told me later that I caught my first fish only a few seconds after she had prayed I would catch one!! What a sweet wife to say a little prayer for her husband! Her faith went a long way...I was able to give a fish to a man watching and another to friends in our old ward.

I told Cbug I knew what I wanted to get her for Christmas, a fishing pole! She was NOT pleased.

A Deer and A Diamondback

This year we decided to dress up and head to the MBA Halloween party. I tried with all my might to get Curtis to dress up as a hunter to go with my deer costume but at the last minute it didn't come together and he refused to go to the store to get a hunting vest. Good thing he has a real life Diamondbacks uniform! He looks so cute as a ball player (even if our outfits were completely unrelated - maybe next year I'll plan a little better).

My favorite part of the evening was as we were walking out the door we heard a little girl yell, "Mom! A reindeer just walked out the door!!" So cute.

Brananda Forever

I'm finally posting photos from my Gal Pal, Amanda's, wedding. She married the most wonderful guy, Brannon, and we couldn't be happier for the two of them. Also... I must add the fact that Cur and I sort of set them up so one point for us! It was great to be home in AZ and even greater to be in the temple with one of my best friends for her special day.

It's been a while...

I know you haven't heard from me in a while. Sorry about that. We've been running a million miles an hour these days! In the last month we moved, got sick, Cur went to Cali for his cousin Cara's wedding, I went to AZ for my gal pal's wedding (post to follow on that)... needless to say we've been busy kids.

Here are a few shots of what it's like around here these days. I've decided that while I hate, despise, and abhor winter, I love fall. There's something about the crisp chill in the air. It smells clean and fresh in a way only mountain country can. It's been chilly but I've enjoyed watching the leaves turn and the seasons change, something I never experienced until last fall, being a born and raised Arizona desert girl.

Here's a shot driving up University Avenue. That's where we live on the right. We love it here.


Last Sunday we took a drive up the canyon into Sundance. So beautiful. We wish we could bottle up that air for a sniff every now and then.






Lastly, we've been married a year as of October 11th! It's crazy how fast time flies. We're having so much fun together. We have yet to celebrate as I was sick on the weekend of our anniversary but we have a little getaway planned for next weekend up to Park City (for a small fee of sitting through one of those torturous timeshare presentations). It will be great to get out of town and up into the mountains. Happy Anniversary to us!

GO GO GO

The past few weeks have been CHAOTIC.


We moved into a new condo and if moving isn't difficult enough, we coordinated the painting, carpet cleaning, lock changing, and installation of new countertops, sink, and of course tile floor. That was a lot of work and I have Cbug to thank for most of it. We love our new place (thx mom and dad!). Pictures coming soon.


Our travel log has been hectic. In the past two weeks I did the following:

SLC to Las Vegas to New Orleans
New Orleans to Denver to SLC
SLC to Phx and back to SLC
SLC to PHX to Orange County
OC to LA and back
OC to PHX to SLC.....
and finally home! That's a lot of traveling and too much standing in airport lines.


The good news is I had fun in California, even though I was still recovering from a cold. I stayed with my friend Ryan Nicholls and his wife Tracy. Ry and I shared stories about living in Brazil together and selling pest control in California together.



Before my cousin Cara's wedding kicked off, I had a chance to meet with marketing peeps at Honda and Yamaha headquarters. Both experiences were awesome. I'm hoping it leads to job offers later when positions become available.

Cousin Cara and Joe got married in Mission Viejo. The wedding and weather were beautiful. I had fun seeing family and playing with my nieces Kate and Macy. Somehow Macy slept in my arms through all the post-wedding dancing. Sorry, but I don't have pictures of the festivites.

Speaking of weddings, I believe I got married 364 days ago today...

Not Feeling Well

My family knows when I get sick, I get really sick and I stay sick for a long time. Unfortunately, that's been the case since Wednesday. I've been 100% bed ridden, making life miserable. I've missed school, General Conference, Priesthood Session, and I haven't been able to entertain Robert Kempton while he's been staying with us. Its too bad because we had hopes of fishing and riding motorcycles. I'm also stressed about getting healthy in time for a business trip on Monday and a trip to California this week.

"So How Was Your Day At School?"

We've all been there. You come home from a long day of 3rd grade and all you can think about is getting to the box of Oatmeal Cream Pies before your siblings and eating the last one while watching Duck Tales (woo-hoo!).

Your Mom, however, wants to know how the day was and what you did. If you were like me in 3rd grade, your answer was along the lines of "I dont know" and "nothing". Well, things have changed!

For my Leadership class, I've been asked to start a project where I positively influence others. The project is supposed to be something I've been wanting to do and something I feel passionately about. This led me to think about my MBA experience. I have a lot of people ask me questions about it. People are usually looking to answer 1 of 2 questions:

1) "Is what you're learning as a MBA worthwhile for me to consider going back to school"

or

2) "I'm having such and such problems in my company, what are they teaching you in business school that could help me improve my business?"

In response to friends and family looking for business tips or considering a graduate degree (and in my own desire to keep a record of what I'm learning in school) I'm going to blog each day after class some key takeaways from the day. The goal is to keep it SHORT (after all I've got snacks and cartoons to watch when I get home), to keep it interesting, and insightful.

Part of the project is showing that I actually made a difference. In order to do so, I'd like to know what kind of things you'd like me to blog about: The work load? Ways to grow a company? Better methods of hiring good employees? Tips on networking and job finding?

The purpose of the blog is not to act like I'm a pro or know it all on these subjects, but a way to share what I'm learning and help people get answers to questions. Also, feel free to add advice and tips.

Please let me know what you'd like to hear about and if you have something you'd like to contribute! I look forward to your comments.

Looking for Jobs in the Big Easy

Although its September and only 1 month into our last year of the program, MBAs are already looking for jobs upon graduating in April. Many companies start interviewing in Sept./Oct. to make offers before Christmas for jobs in May. Confusing?



Anyways, in hopes of getting in front of the best companies looking to hire I headed to New Orleans to attend the National Black MBA Career Fair. No, you don't have to be black to go. There were whites, blacks, indians, asians, latinos, and even a few extra-terrestrials. I thought I would feel out of place, but everyone was very cordial and I had a great time.

There were actually 50 of us BYU students who traveled to New Orleans together. We had fun walking the streets, tasting the NOLA grub, and sharing stories about our interviews.




Speaking of interviews, I scored THREE! One with AutoZone, Harley-Davidson, and EcoLab. They all went well and I'm hoping to hear from them and other companies who asked to interview me at another date. I'm really excited about the future!


My good friend and old roommate Scott Fryer came down from Purdue for the same event. We had a great time reminiscing and talking interview strategies.






Other than Texas, I've never been to the South before. Its quirky, historic, has great food, and is HUMIDDDDDDDD.
